The eagerly anticipated four-episode limited series The Witcher: Blood Origin landed on Netflix on December 25 last year. Despite gloating bigwigs such as Michelle Yeoh, Minnie Driver, Lenny Henry and Dylan Moran, the show was still a huge thud from the audience and critics.
The spin-off series takes place a millennial before The Witcher, exploring the conventional Elven civilization Xin’ trea before its end. It chronicles the untold story of the seven elf warriors who rebelled against the Xin’ trea forces after its coup d’etat.
Reportedly, The Witcher: Blood Origin has received the lowest audience scores of all time for a Netflix original show, breaking Resident Evil's last-year record of 26% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a critic score of 32%, which is surprisingly higher than the meager 13% audience score.
Here’s what the critics have to say, “A shallow excavation of ancient lore from Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series. Blood Origin shares ancestral DNA with The Witcher but little of what makes the mothership series memorable.”
Outraged fans have been sending non-stop nasty remarks on Twitter about the spin-off series since its debut.
One says, “You people just will not learn that forcing unrelated crap will only lead to the opposite effect. Pity.”
“Seeing the witcher world look so f*** generic is a damn shame. What’s worse is seeing people defend it,” another one adds.

The mainline show The Witcher is one of Netflix's most successful original productions, boasting 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.1/10 on IMDb and 93% on Google Review, so it's unlikely to get nixed any time soon.
But don't count on seeing the platform spending millions to produce a spin-off show that would probably bore the hardest-core fans to death.
