During a live broadcast on CNBCe, Tofaş CEO Cengiz Elordu answered journalist Emre Özpeynirci's questions and made a surprise announcement. Making notable statements about the automotive industry, Elordu announced that production of the Fiat Egea Sedan, currently the most affordable car in Turkey and the country's best-selling car model in 2024, will be discontinued.
'We will make our decision regarding the production of Egea soon. If we decide to extend the production, our decision will be for a maximum of 6 months. We also want to fill the production quota that will be vacated by the Egea production with a new model. Of course, while making this decision, we need to understand customer preferences. Customers are gradually shifting from sedan models to SUVs. The success of Egea is indeed something that stems from the correct product selection. We did not predict that it would be this successful when we made the investment decision for Egea. We have sold approximately 700,000 vehicles in about 10 years since 2015. This is a very large number because the total production is at the level of 1 million 350 thousand. This shows that you can be successful when you produce the right product at the right price. Therefore, choosing the right model and being able to select what the customer wants is very important. It is possible to achieve a similar success with the right model in Turkey.'
