Following a stabbing incident involving a Turkish citizen in Montenegro, the situation escalated into racially motivated attacks targeted at Turkish citizens. Consequently, the Montenegrin government announced the cancellation of visa-free travel rights for Turkish nationals. Montenegro's Foreign Minister, Ervin İbrahimovic, expressed his belief that the suspension of the visa-free travel agreement with Turkey could be lifted within 10-15 days.
Allegedly, following a legal incident involving two Turkish citizens, Montenegrin locals began to attack Turkish immigrants. Serious incidents reportedly broke out in several cities, leading the government to announce a temporary suspension of visa exemptions for Turkish citizens.
It was also claimed that some Turkish citizens were taken into custody in the wake of these events.
Montenegro's Foreign Minister, Ervin Ibrahimovic, held a joint press conference with Germany's Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, who was on official visit in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro.
In response to a question regarding the suspension of visa-free travel with Turkey following an incident that allegedly involved Turkish citizens at the end of October in Montenegro, Ibrahimovic stated, 'We are in constant communication with the Prime Minister (Milojko Spajic). I believe the decision to suspend the visa-free travel arrangement with Turkey will be revoked within 10 to 15 days.'
