The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission have launched an investigation into three major companies in the AI sector: OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Microsoft. 👇

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have agreed to investigate major companies in the AI sector.

As part of this agreement, the regulatory bodies will conduct a new antitrust investigation into the dominant roles played by Microsoft, OpenAI, and NVIDIA in the AI industry.

Allegedly, the DOJ will first investigate whether NVIDIA, the largest AI chip manufacturer with an 80% market share, has violated antitrust laws.

Additionally, serious allegations that NVIDIA locks in customers with software stacks like CUDA will also be part of the investigation.

The FTC will examine Microsoft's $13 billion investment in OpenAI, known for AI models such as ChatGPT, Sora, and Dall-E.

Both agencies will also follow up on a previous investigation into whether OpenAI has harmed consumers through data collection practices.
