There has been a significant development in the long-discussed personalized cancer vaccines for the treatment of cancer patients.
Under the National Health Service (NHS), thirty hospitals in the UK have joined the Cancer Vaccine Project, which aims to produce personalized cancer vaccines.
The project utilizes mRNA technology, matching the genes of cancer patients with mRNA-based vaccines.
These newly developed vaccines will not only recognize and destroy residual cancer cells post-treatment but also help reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. Elliot Pfebve, the first person recorded to be treated with a personalized vaccine against bowel cancer, commented, “If successful, this will be a medical breakthrough. It could help and give hope to thousands of people.”
