The United Nations General Assembly has made a historic decision regarding artificial intelligence (AI).

A resolution, prompted by the United States, encouraging monitoring of potential risks associated with AI, has been unanimously accepted by all member countries for the first time.

While the decision is not binding, reaching global consensus on such an issue is seen as a significant step forward.

In her statement, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield noted the collective determination of the UN General Assembly's 193 member countries to control AI.

Thomas-Greenfield said, "Today, we collectively sent a strong message that we should control AI, not the other way around."

The approved resolution highlights the risks posed by AI systems being used for malicious purposes, particularly concerning human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Member countries of the United Nations have committed to continuously monitoring AI development and strengthening privacy policies to minimize these risks.
