Zeugma was founded in 300 BC by Seleucus I. Nikator, one of the generals of Alexander the Great. The city, whose first name was Selevkeia Euphrates, was later named ‘Zeugma’ when it came under the rule of the Roman Empire.

The city became a major military base and trade centre during the Roman period as it was one of the important crossing points on the Euphrates River. Zeugma, whose population exceeded 80,000 in the 2nd century AD, was one of the richest cities on the eastern border of Rome.

Zeugma draws attention not only with its military and economic aspects but also with its mythological structure. You can reach the museum in about 20-30 minutes by taxi from the Gaziantep Bus Station and the airport. If you want to use public transport, you can easily reach the museum by getting off at the ‘Museum’ stop with municipal buses or minibuses. The closest main street to the museum is on ‘İpekyolu Boulevard’. If you are staying in the city, you can reach the museum in 10-15 minutes from most hotels.
