Apart from the winnings, Step has been well received by the audience, scoring 70% on IMDb, 96% Rotten Tomatoes and 3.7/5 on Letterboxd. One top critic, Soraya Nadia McDonald from Andscape quotes, 'Step is the story of young girls who are beating the odds. After seeing it, I hope audiences remember these girls never have had to face such odds in the first place.'
Step is a movie based on the real-life events of a girls’ high-school step team set in Baltimore. Even with odds against them, the young ladies still find joy and laughter on and off the stage. But they are not alone as they receive enormous support from their families, teachers, coaches, teammates and counselors. With that in mind, the step girls pursue their dream of winning a step championship and getting enrolled on college.
The stars featured in the docufilm include Blessin Giraldo, Cori Grainger, Tayla Solomon, Gari McIntyre and Paula Dofat.
Step is produced by Lipitz in collaboration with Steven Cantor for Stick Figure Productions.
