Lake Suluklu has a very rich ecosystem in terms of plant and animal species. The lake is home to many endemic species. There are fish species such as trout, abant trout, rudd and rainbow trout. Various wild animals such as gazelles, roe deer, rabbits, brown bears, foxes, wolves, wild boars, tree frogs, hawks and wild cats live in the forested areas around the lake. Formation and Characteristics of Lake Suluklu
Lake Suluklu was formed by a landslide that occurred as a result of ground movements in nature. According to research, as a result of this landslide in 1703, a landslide embankment emerged. This natural hollow area was filled with the waters of the Hongurdak Stream. The deepest point of the lake reaches 35 meters. During the landslide, the fir, pine and oak trees in the soil stand upright so that they remain on the water surface.
The 183 planted tree trunks, which have not decayed for about 300 years, offer a very impressive view, especially with the receding water levels in late summer.
Lake Suluklu was included in the list of protected areas in 1987 and remained a wildlife sanctuary until 2011. However, this status was abolished by the Ministry of Forestry in 2011, and the region was declared a nature park.

The most suitable periods to visit Lake Suluklu are the spring and fall seasons. If you want to participate in hiking and nature tours, it is recommended to choose spring; if you want to watch the nature around the lake, it is recommended to choose the fall season.
Most tours depart from Istanbul. If you are going to visit with a tour, you should know that you will leave the vehicles in Tavşansuyu Village early in the morning and take a walk of about 9 kilometres.
Large vehicles can't reach the lake because the road to Lake Suluklu is winding, narrow and has a dirt floor.

Since the area where Lake Suluklu is located has been under protection and protected area status for many years, no structures have been built for accommodation purposes near the lake. The nearest accommodation places are hot spring facilities and thermal hotels located about 30 kilometres away.
Where is Lake Suluklu? How to get there?
Lake Suluklu is located in the Western Black Sea Region, within the borders of Tavsansuyu Village of Mudurnu district of Bolu. It is also known as “Sarigolcuk” by the people of the region. The name of the village and the lake were changed in the 1990s. The lake marks the border between Bolu and Sakarya provinces.
Those who want to go to Lake Suluklu from Istanbul should use the E-8 highway from the direction of Pendik. After passing Sapanca Lake, transportation can be provided by turning from Dokurcan Village to the Lake Suluklu road. It is possible to come by public transportation or private vehicle, and you can also visit the region with organised tours.
