It has been revealed that a significant data breach has occurred in Gmail, one of the most widely used email services in the world. The data breach, detected by the website 'Have I Been Pwned' which specializes in internet security, revealed that 183 million email accounts have been hacked. Experts have issued a warning for all Gmail users to change their passwords and activate the two-step verification system.
According to a report by the British press, The Independent, passwords for 183 million email addresses have been compromised. The cyber pirates who have obtained these passwords are also able to access other sites connected to Gmail.
Troy Hunt, the manager of the website 'Have I Been Pwned', which revealed a significant data leak last April, stated that the leaked data was compiled from a much larger cyber attack that took place across the internet.
Experts are urging Gmail users to immediately change their passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA). This security measure makes it harder for hackers to use the accounts, even if they manage to get hold of the password.
